I don’t know about you guys, but I’m feeling all of the music feels lately. Between Adele’s single drop this morning and songs like M83’s Wait or Ryan Adams’ cover of Wonderwall, these musicians just get where I’m at in life right now.
But that’s the wonderful/magical/crazy thing about music, right? It’s ability to both transport you to a past memory but also, it’s ability to bring feelings to the surface. Happy feelings, sad feelings, introspective feelings. Just…feelings.
I’ve always marveled at the fact that people, separated by miles or even lifetimes, can experience similar emotions over the same song. That Bob Dylan can write the lyrics to Forever Young as a lullaby for his son and 40 years later, it’s still as relevant as it was the day it was written but this time for so many other parents of little ones. Or the fact that you can be driving down the road and suddenly an oldie-but-a-goodie song transports you back to living room dance parties with the stereo turned all the way up or the belting of 80’s & 90’s soft rock ballads in the car with your dad. Because that is what music does. And that is magical.
So, little Hunter. Because Bob Dylan can say it better than anyone else…
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young.
