Morgan & Jordyn | Minneapolis Wedding Photography

I’m pretty sure my love of weddings can be traced back to one source.

That scene in Love Actually where Kiera Knightly & Chiwetel Ejiofor’s characters have just gotten married and surprise(!), there’s a gospel choir singing “All You Need is Love”. She looks at her new husband like, “did you do this?” and he shakes his head and they both look at his best man who shrugs like, “hey, it’s no big thing” AND THEN INSTRUMENTS POP UP FROM THE GUESTS and everyone laughs and cries and falls head-over-heels in love with that moment.

I remember watching the movie for the first time – 5-ish years before I would ever photograph my first wedding – thinking that exact moment is why I will forever love weddings. Happiness on wedding days comes in a lot of forms; sometimes simply in the form of hugs or squeals or happy dances but there’s always one peak of unadulterated tangible happiness and it is still my ultimate, no question, favorite thing about the 115+ weddings I’ve photographed.

So fast forward 12 years to Morgan & Jordyn’s day and the rumors started that Morgan’s mom was planning a little surprise for the couple. One that involved a gospel choir and guests with instruments and you know what? It was an amazing moment; there is absolutely no denying that. But it wasn’t THE defining moment for this couple on this day. For them, that moment came in the form of a make-everyone-in-the-room-cry toast by her dad and his mom. And in the form of the bride and her siblings singing a song to force their mom and dad to kiss publicly. And in the form of Morgan surprising Jordyn by singing her heart out for her groom. And in the form of a hilarious flash dance done by the wedding party to start the dance floor. That is the beauty of weddings, friends. That moment looks different for every single couple but it is compellingly beautiful every single time.

Morgan & Jordyn. If the beauty of your wedding day is any indication of the beauty of the future of your marriage – you both are in for one magnificent marriage. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day in such a wonderfully intimate way (and thanks to your mom for making my Love Actually loving heart so, so happy). You guys really are something special. xo

Psst, Morgan & Jordyn’s wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty this past May!
